Walt Disney World is adding a third International Festival to the Epcot calendar this Winter, joining the beloved Flower & Garden and Food & Wine Festivals. Running from Fridays through Mondays, from January 13 through February 20, 2017, the festival will highlight new visual, culinary, and performing arts each weekend.
While the specific schedule has not yet been released, Disney did give us a few hints in the press release announcing the new Festival. From the visual arts, expect displays from classic Disney artists like Mary Blair and Herb Ryman, as well as modern counterparts like Joe Kaminski and Costa Alavezos. In addition to art displays, Disney has promised opportunities to “watch the creative process live” as well. On the culinary arts front, the Festival will feature “Food Studios” (a/k/a booths like at the other Festivals) that will highlight the visual presentation of their food offerings, as well as their flavors.
Perhaps the most exciting element of this new Festival is that it is being developed in cooperation with Disney Theatrical, the part of the Disney Company responsible for Disney’s popular Broadway musical productions. Each weekend will feature showcases from different Disney Theatrical productions, with possibilities including The Lion King, Newsies, and Aladdin, just to name a few.
